How TabApp works, a task at a time, with examples.
Getting started
- What TabApp doesTabApp shares a bill between the people who were there, works out who owes whom, and keeps track of what has been paid back.
- Split your first billStart a bill from the create button, as a quick split, a scanned receipt or items added by hand, or start a tab.
- You were sent a linkOpen a bill's link, say which person on it you are, and claim and pay with no account. A tab's link asks you to sign in.
- Home, Bills, Tabs and MeGet around TabApp: Home for what needs you, Bills and Tabs for everything you are on, Search for anything at all, and Me for your settings.
Bills
- A quick splitShare one amount between people in a few seconds, evenly or in different amounts, ready for payment as soon as it is made.
- A bill item by itemEnter what was on the bill line by line, then let each person claim what they had, so everyone pays for their own.
- Scan a receiptTake a photo of the receipt, check what was read, and the items fill in for you.
- Add, change and remove itemsAdd an item to a bill, put right its name, price or how many, or remove it, and bring back an item removed by mistake.
- Claim what you hadTap what you ate or drank on a bill's Split step, and your share is worked out as you go, service and all.
- Split an item: Even, Units, Shares, Percent and AmountShare one item between people in the way that fits it, from equal parts to exact amounts.
- Service, tax, tip and discountAdd a service charge, tax, a tip or a discount to a bill, and choose whether each is shared by what people had or evenly.
- Who paid the billSay who paid the venue, one person or several with an amount each, so TabApp knows who owes whom.
- Ready for payment, and reopeningCheck everyone's total on Review, lock the bill so people can pay, and reopen it if something needs to change.
- The people on a billAdd people to a bill, share its link, and see where each person stands. The organiser can rename, merge or remove someone.
- A bill's activity and settingsRename a bill, change its date or currency, choose who can add items, move it into a tab, and see who changed what.
- Print, save as PDF and exportPrint a bill on paper, save it as a PDF to send or keep, or export its items to a spreadsheet as a CSV file.
- Delete a bill and bring it backDelete a bill nobody has paid on, restore it from Recently deleted within 30 days, or hide a bill from your own lists instead.
Paying
- Pay what you owePay the person you owe in your own way, then say you have paid so they can confirm it arrived.
- Record a paymentRecord money that reached you, in cash or by bank or app, so the bill counts it at once.
- Confirm a payment, or say it has not arrivedWhen someone says they paid you, check the money arrived, then confirm it, correct the amount, or say it has not come.
- Your payment methodsSave how people can pay you, so anyone who owes you can open a payment link or copy your bank details.
- Reminders, and forgiving an amountRemind the people who owe you, message anyone TabApp cannot reach, and let someone off what they owe in a tab.
Tabs
- What a tab is, and starting oneA tab keeps a trip's or a household's bills together and settles them as one, in one currency. Start one, name it, and choose who is on it.
- Adding bills and payments to a tabAdd a bill to a tab, move in one of your own, record a payment, or add a person, all from the add button at the foot of the tab.
- A tab's balancesSee where everyone in a tab stands, and open anyone's balance to see the bills and payments behind it and what would clear it.
- Paying in a tabSay you paid someone in a tab, record money that reached you, or, if you run the tab, record a payment between two others.
- The people on a tab, with or without an accountInvite people to a tab, add a name for someone with no account, send them a link of their own, and change who runs the tab.
- Closing a tab, its activity and printing itSee everything that happened in a tab, print it or export it, and close, leave, hide or delete it when you are done.
Groups
- What a group is, and starting oneKeep a flat, a team or a trip's people in one place, so every tab and bill started in it begins with them.
- Joining a group and its tabsJoin a group from its link with an account, then choose which of its open tabs you are in. Joining puts you on no tab or bill by itself.
- The people in a groupSee who is in a group and their role. The owner and admins add people, make someone an admin, and take people off it.

Guests and invite links
- Taking part with no accountClaim what you had on a bill and pay your share with no account. Joining a tab or a group from its shared link needs one.
- Keeping your seat with an accountSign in from a bill or tab you joined as a guest, and your seat moves to your account, with what you claimed and paid.
- Invite links, and resetting oneShare the link to a bill, a tab or a group, send someone a link of their own, and reset a link that went to the wrong place.
