Record a payment

Record money that reached you, in cash or by bank or app, so the bill counts it at once.

When someone pays you outside the app, or hands you cash, you can record it yourself. A payment you record is your own word about your own money, so it is Confirmed as you make it and the balances change at once. It is how a bill gets paid up when someone never opens the app.

How to record a payment to you

  1. Open the bill. Under You're owed, each person who owes you has a row with what they still have to send.
  2. Press Record at the foot of the bill, or press the person's row. The sheet Who paid you? opens.
  3. Choose the person, if they are not chosen already.
  4. Check the Amount. It starts at what they owe you; change it if they paid part.
  5. Under How they paid, choose how it reached you: your own saved payment methods first, then Bank, then Cash.
  6. Press the button, which names the amount and the person, such as Record 11.22 from Alex.

Record is at the foot of the bill when you owe nobody on it. While the bill is Ready for payment, Add a payment at the top of the bill lists Who paid you? and Who did you pay? in one place.

When they already said they paid

Someone who has said they paid is listed with what they said, such as "Says they paid 28.49", and the button reads Confirm in place of Record. Pressing it confirms their payment rather than adding a second one. If what arrived is a different amount, type what arrived: the sheet says what they said, and records what arrived.

Taking a record back

Press the payment's row, then Reverse this payment. It is taken off the bill, and the message that says so offers Undo to put it back.

Between two other people

The bill's owner can record a payment between two other people, from Add a payment under Between others, for no more than is still owed between them. The person paid can still say it did not reach them.

Worked example: Alex pays Maya in cash

Alex was added to Luigi's Trattoria by name and never opens the app. He owes Maya 11.22, and the next day he hands it to her in cash.

Maya opens the bill and presses Record. She chooses Alex, leaves the amount at 11.22, chooses Cash and presses Record 11.22 from Alex. Alex is paid up at once. At the foot of the bill, Paid up goes from 0 of 3 to 1 of 3, and Maya is still owed 47.74: 28.49 from Tom and 19.25 from Priya.

If something stops you

  • The person is not listed. They owe you nothing on this bill, or they owe someone else.
  • You are on the bill through a link, with no account. Recording or confirming a payment needs an account.
  • You have no connection. Recording needs a connection.
