Confirm a payment, or say it has not arrived

When someone says they paid you, check the money arrived, then confirm it, correct the amount, or say it has not come.

When someone says they paid you, their payment is Paid: it is on its way, and it waits for you. Check your bank or payment app, then confirm it. Only a Confirmed payment changes the balances. If the money has not come, say so, and the amount is owed again.

How to confirm a payment

  1. Open the payment. Your Inbox has a row for it, such as "Tom says they paid you 28.49", and on the bill it is under You're owed with a warning mark. Payments at the foot of the bill shows how many wait for you.
  2. Read the sheet. It says who paid, how much, how and when, and what to check, such as "Check your PayPal before confirming."
  3. Press Confirm received once the money is there.

From the Inbox, Confirm on the row does the same in one press. The person who paid is told.

If it has not arrived

  1. On the payment's sheet, press Not received.
  2. Add a note for them if you like, such as which account you checked.
  3. Press Say it has not arrived.

They are told, the payment stops counting as on its way, and the amount is owed again. You can still confirm it later if it turns up.

If a different amount arrived

  1. On the payment's sheet, press Different amount.
  2. Type What arrived. The sheet says what that leaves to pay, or how much more it is.
  3. Press Confirm this amount.

The payment counts for what arrived, and what they said is kept beside it. Anything not covered is still owed.

Taking a confirmation back

Open the payment again. For ten minutes after confirming it offers Undo, and after that Reverse this payment. Either puts the payment back to waiting for you. Only the person paid can do this.

A payment the bill's owner recorded for you was never yours to confirm. Its sheet offers Not received, if the money did not reach you.

Worked example: Tom's 28.49

Tom says he paid Maya 28.49 for Luigi's Trattoria, through PayPal. Maya opens the payment from her Inbox. The sheet reads "Tom says they paid you", 28.49 via PayPal, and "Check your PayPal before confirming."

  • It arrived. Maya presses Confirm received. Tom is paid up, and Maya is still owed 30.47: 19.25 from Priya and 11.22 from Alex.
  • Only 25.00 arrived. Maya presses Different amount and types 25.00. The sheet says "3.49 will be left to pay." She presses Confirm this amount, and Tom still owes her 3.49.
  • Nothing arrived. Maya presses Not received, then Say it has not arrived. Tom owes her 28.49 again, and his payment's sheet says "Maya says this has not arrived."

If something stops you

  • There is no Confirm. Only the person paid can confirm a payment, and confirming needs an account.
  • You have no connection. Answering a payment needs a connection.
