Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create a new tab?

Click the "New Tab" button on your dashboard. Give your tab a name, select a currency, and optionally add a location or description. You can then start adding items and participants.

How do I split a bill with friends?

After creating a tab and adding items, click the "Share" button to generate an invite link. Send this link to your friends, and they can join the tab to see and claim their share of the expenses.

Can I split items unevenly?

Yes! When assigning an item to participants, you can choose equal splits, custom amounts, or percentage-based splits. This is perfect for situations where one person had more of a shared dish.

How do I add items from a receipt?

Use the receipt scanner feature by clicking the camera icon when adding items. Take a photo of your receipt, and TabApp will automatically extract item names and prices for you to review and add.

What happens when someone joins my tab?

When someone joins via your invite link, they become a participant in the tab. They can see all items, claim their portions, and the app will automatically calculate what they owe.

How do I settle up after a meal?

TabApp calculates who owes what to whom and shows the simplest way to settle debts. You can mark payments as complete in the app to track who has paid. Note: TabApp does not process actual payments.

Can I edit or delete items after adding them?

Yes, as the tab owner you can edit item names, prices, and splits at any time. You can also delete items if they were added by mistake.

Is my payment information secure?

All sensitive data is encrypted using industry-standard security practices. We use Clerk for secure authentication and Turso for encrypted database storage. See our Privacy Policy for more details.

Can I use TabApp offline?

TabApp requires an internet connection to sync data across devices and participants. However, you can view your existing tabs while offline, and changes will sync when you reconnect.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from the Settings page in your profile. This will permanently remove your account and all associated data. Note that tabs you created may still exist for other participants.
