Ready for payment, and reopening

Check everyone's total on Review, lock the bill so people can pay, and reopen it if something needs to change.

A bill is set up in four steps: People, Items, Split and Review. On Review, everyone's total is listed, with whatever still stops the bill being ready. When the organiser makes the bill Ready for payment, its items, splits and extras are locked, everyone is told what they owe, and payments open. If something was wrong, the organiser can reopen it.

How to make a bill ready for payment

  1. Open the Review step, the last button on the bar at the foot of the bill.
  2. Read anything listed at the top. Each says what stops the bill being ready, with a button that fixes it.
  3. Press a person's row to see what their total is made of: each item, then their part of each extra.
  4. Press Ready for payment. A sheet asks whether the bill is ready, and says everyone is told what they owe.
  5. Press Ready for payment again to confirm. The bill opens on its payments.

Only the organiser can make a bill Ready for payment. Everyone else on the bill can read Review, and sees a line saying the organiser makes it ready.

What has to be sorted out first

  • Nobody is marked as paying. Press Say who paid (see Who paid the bill).
  • What the payers paid does not add up to the total. The line says by how much it is short or over. Press Change who paid.
  • Items are unclaimed. Press Go to Split to see them, or Split evenly to share them out evenly. The toast that follows offers Undo.
  • Items are only partly claimed. Each one has a button that opens its split. Split what's left evenly, claims stay shares out only the part nobody has claimed.

Until the list is empty, the Ready for payment button says to sort out what is listed first.

How to reopen a bill

  1. Open Bill settings, the button at the top of the bill.
  2. Press Reopen bill. Review opens.
  3. Press Reopen. A sheet says what reopening does.
  4. Press Reopen again to confirm, or Keep it as it is.

The bill goes back to Open, and items and claims can change again. Payments close until it is made Ready for payment again. If some payments were already confirmed, the sheet says how many, and that balances will update once the totals change. A bill that is Settled can be reopened the same way.

Worked example: locking Luigi's

Maya has set up the bill at Luigi's Trattoria and said she paid. On Review nothing is listed at the top, and the line under the people reads "Sums to 77.66. All claimed."

PersonTotalWhere they stand
Maya18.70Paid 77.66, gets back 58.96
Tom28.49Owes you
Priya19.25Owes you
Alex11.22Owes you

Maya reads "Owes you" because the review is hers. Pressing Tom's row shows "Diavola 14.00, Garlic bread 1.50, Peroni 10.40, Service (10%) 2.59".

Maya presses Ready for payment and confirms. Tom, Priya and Alex now owe her 28.49, 19.25 and 11.22.

Before Maya said who paid, Review listed "Nobody is marked as paying." with a Say who paid button, and Ready for payment waited until she had.

If something stops you

  • Ready for payment is greyed out. Something is still listed at the top of Review, or there is no connection. Making a bill ready, and reopening it, both need a connection.
  • You do not see the button. Only the organiser can make a bill ready or reopen it.
  • Reopen bill says the tab is closed. A bill in a closed tab stays ready for payment until the tab is reopened.
