Claim what you had

Tap what you ate or drank on a bill's Split step, and your share is worked out as you go, service and all.

To claim an item is to say you had it. Everyone on a bill claims their own items on the Split step, and the organiser can claim for anyone. Your share is what you claimed, with your part of any service, tax, tip or discount, and it is shown at the foot of the bill as you go.

How to claim

  1. Open the bill and go to the Split step. Someone opening a bill's link lands there.
  2. Tap each item you had. You are added to it, and the row is tinted as yours.
  3. To take it back, tap your own circle on the row.
  4. If you are not the organiser, press Done claiming when you have finished. It tells the organiser, and changes nothing on the bill.

A tap only ever adds you. On an item others have claimed evenly, you join them and the price is shared evenly between you all. On an item that is several of something, such as three beers, each tap takes one more, and a tap on your circle gives one back.

The mark at the end of a row is a tick when the item is claimed and a warning when it is not, or only partly. On an item that is several of something, it counts the units taken, such as 2/3. Press it to open the split sheet, for a split that is not even (see Split an item).

Finding what is left

  • All, Unclaimed and Mine above the list narrow it. Unclaimed shows how many are left.
  • Unclaimed at the foot of the bill is the amount nobody has claimed yet. It reads All claimed once everything has been.
  • The organiser can press Split what's unclaimed evenly to share out everything left between everyone on the bill.

Claiming for someone else

The organiser has Claiming for above the list, with Me and each person on the bill. Choose a person, and every tap claims for them. Use it for someone who has no phone with them, or who was added by name and will never open the bill.

Worked example: dinner at Luigi's

Maya runs the bill. Tom and Priya open its link, and Alex was added by name.

  • Garlic bread, 6.00. Maya taps it and has it for 6.00. Tom taps it and they pay 3.00 each, then Priya, at 2.00 each. Maya claims for Alex, and it is 1.50 each.
  • Peroni x3, 15.60. Tom taps it twice and holds 2 of the 3, for 10.40. One unit, 5.20, is still unclaimed. Maya claims it for Alex.
  • Tiramisu, 7.00. Priya taps it and has it for 7.00. Maya claims for Alex, and they pay 3.50 each.

With the pizzas and the Carbonara claimed too, Unclaimed reads All claimed. Priya has the Margherita at 12.50, 1.50 of garlic bread and 3.50 of tiramisu: 17.50 of items. With 10% service, her share reads 19.25.

If something stops you

  • The row does nothing. Claiming needs a connection. The line above the list says so when you are offline.
  • You cannot take someone else off an item. Only that person or the organiser can.
  • The bill is Ready for payment. Claims are locked. The organiser can reopen it.
