You were sent a link
Open a bill's link, say which person on it you are, and claim and pay with no account. A tab's link asks you to sign in.
Someone on a bill can send you its link. Opening it shows the bill: where it was, who invited you, its total and its items. You say which person on the bill you are, and from then on you can claim what you had and pay your share. You need no account: your seat is kept on the browser you opened the link in.
How to join a bill from its link
- Open the link. The page says who invited you to split, and shows the bill's total, its items and who is on it already.
- Under Which one is you?, press your name.
- If your name is not there, press I'm someone else, enter Your name and press Join the bill.
- The page says who you are on the bill, and lists Your items and Your total so far. Press Continue to open the bill.
If a name like yours is on the bill already, you are asked whether that is you. Press Yes, that's me to take that seat, or No, add me as someone new.
If you are signed in, pressing your name opens the bill straight away. If you are on the bill already, the link takes you to it.
How to keep your seat on every device
Your seat is kept on the browser you opened the link in. To have it on your other devices as well, press Sign in, on the bill's page or on the page that says who you are.
Picked the wrong name? Press Not you? Change before you go on. The seat goes back for the right person, with whatever was claimed for it, and you choose again.
A link to a tab
A tab keeps a balance between people over time, so joining one from its shared link needs an account. The page shows the tab, who is in it and what has been spent so far, with Sign in to join and Create an account. You are on the bills added after you join, not the ones before.
A link sent to you alone says whose it is, such as "This link is Priya's". Open the tab as Priya opens the tab with no account, and Sign in instead joins it with yours.
Worked example: Priya joins Luigi's
Maya sends the link for Luigi's Trattoria to Priya, who has no account. Priya opens it and reads "Maya invited you to split", with a total of 77.66.
She presses Priya under Which one is you?. The next page reads "You're Priya on Luigi's Trattoria":

Your total so far is 19.25: her items come to 17.50, and her part of the 10% service brings it to 19.25. The garlic bread was shared by all four and the tiramisu with Alex, so she carries only her part of each.
If the link does not work
- "This invite doesn't work anymore". The link was turned off, or what it led to was deleted or has no seat left. Ask the person who sent it for a new link.
- "This tab is closed". Nobody new can join it. Ask the person who sent the link if you need to be in it.
- "Too many tries". Invite links have been opened from there too often. Wait a minute, then open the link again.
- The bill is in a tab. Everyone on it settles up in the tab, so the page offers Join the tab instead of the names.
- "Nobody new can be added to it". The bill is Ready for payment, so it takes nobody new. You can still press your name if it is listed, to see what you owe.
