Who paid the bill
Say who paid the venue, one person or several with an amount each, so TabApp knows who owes whom.
Whoever paid the venue is the bill's payer. Their share is what they had; everything they paid beyond it is owed back to them by the others. A bill can have one payer, or several people who each paid part, and it cannot be made Ready for payment until what they paid adds up to the total.
How to say who paid
- Open the bill's Bill settings, the button at the top of the bill, and press Who paid. You can also press the Who paid row on the People step.
- Choose the person who paid. If more than one person paid, choose Several people.
- With several people, type what each one paid beside their name. The line beneath says how much has been paid of the total.
- Press Save.
One person chosen on their own pays the whole total, and goes on doing so if an item or an extra changes it.
Who can say what
- The organiser can choose anyone, and type what each person paid. With Several people, when the organiser types one amount, what is left of the total is filled in for the next person, marked Filled for you.
- Anyone else with an account can say they paid, or under Several people type what they paid themselves. Only the organiser can say someone else paid. If what they type leaves the bill short, it can still be saved, and the organiser says who paid the rest.
- A guest sees who paid, and signs in to say what they paid towards the bill.
If the organiser puts you down as having paid, the screen asks whether that is right, with a That's wrong button that takes you off. Once the bill is Ready for payment, ask the organiser to correct it instead.
Who paid can still be changed once the bill is Ready for payment. The screen says that balances will update, because people may already have paid what they were asked for.
Worked example: two cards at Luigi's
The bill at Luigi's Trattoria comes to 77.66. Maya paid the whole bill, so she chooses herself and presses Save. Her own share is 18.70, so she gets back 58.96: Tom owes her 28.49, Priya 19.25 and Alex 11.22.
Now say Maya paid 50.00 and Tom paid the other 27.66 on his card. Maya chooses Several people and types 50.00 beside her name, and the 27.66 left is filled in for Tom. The line reads "Total paid 77.66 of 77.66", and the screen says: "Tom will owe Maya 0.83 once the bill is ready for payment." Tom's share is 28.49 and he paid 27.66, so 0.83 is all he still owes. Priya and Alex still owe Maya 19.25 and 11.22.
Had Maya typed only her own 50.00 and cleared Tom's amount, the line would say the payments are 27.66 short, and Save would wait until they add up.
If something stops you
- Save is greyed out. Nobody is chosen yet, or the amounts do not add up to the total. The line under the amounts says by how much.
- You cannot choose someone else. Only the organiser can say someone else paid. Their row is locked, and says so.
- The bill is in a closed tab. Who paid stays as it is until the tab is reopened.
