Add, change and remove items
Add an item to a bill, put right its name, price or how many, or remove it, and bring back an item removed by mistake.
An item is a line on a bill: a name, how many, and the total price for the line. Items can be added, changed and removed while the bill is being set up. Anyone on the bill with an account can add items unless the organiser has said only they can, and a person can change the items they added. The organiser can change any of them.
How to add an item
- On the bill, press Add to this bill, then An item.
- Enter the Name, set the Quantity, and enter the Total: the price for the whole line, as the receipt prints it. With more than one, the sheet works out the price of each.
- Press Add item. The sheet stays open for the next item.
How to change or remove an item
- On the Items step, tap the item. The Edit item sheet opens.
- Change what is wrong and press Save, or press Delete item to take it off the bill.
- A delete is not asked about first. A message says who was on the item, with Undo to put it back as it was.
A removed item is listed under Removed items on the Items step for a week, with Restore beside it. It counts for nothing on the bill until it is restored.
What happens to the claims
- Even, Shares or Percent. A new price is shared out again between the same people, in the same way.
- Amount. Exact amounts cannot follow a new price, so the people come off the item and it is unclaimed again. The sheet says so before you save, and Undo puts them back.
- Units. More units leaves the extra ones unclaimed. Fewer than were taken takes everyone off the item.
Worked example: dinner at Luigi's
Maya typed the Tiramisu at 6.00, and Priya and Alex both claimed it, so each was paying 3.00. The receipt says 7.00. Maya opens the Tiramisu, changes the Total to 7.00 and presses Save. Priya and Alex stay on it, now at 3.50 each.
Then she opens the Garlic bread and presses Delete item by mistake. The message reads: Deleted Garlic bread. Maya, Tom, Priya and Alex were on it. She presses Undo, and the Garlic bread is back with all four still on it. Once the message has gone, Restore under Removed items does the same.
If something stops you
- The item cannot be opened. Only the person who added it or the organiser can change it.
- A price is refused. A price cannot be negative. Add a discount instead. A price of zero is allowed, and adds nothing to the total.
- The bill is Ready for payment. Its items are locked. The organiser can reopen it to change them.
