Joining a group and its tabs

Join a group from its link with an account, then choose which of its open tabs you are in. Joining puts you on no tab or bill by itself.

Anyone in a group can send its link. A group keeps the same people together over time, so joining one needs an account, as joining a tab does. Paying a single bill does not: claiming and paying on a bill's link needs no account. Joining a group puts you on no tab or bill. Next you choose which of its open tabs to join, and you are on the bills added to them from then on.

  1. Open the link. The page says "You're invited to a group", with the group's name, what it is for and who is in it, and under What joining means what joining does.
  2. If you are signed out, press Sign in to join, or Create an account. You come back to the same page.
  3. If the group has a name added for you, it asks Which one is you?. Press your name. If you are not listed, press I'm someone else, join as new. A group with no free names offers Join the group.
  4. The next page says "You're in" and the group's name, with who else is in it. Under Join its tabs?, tick the tabs you are part of.
  5. Press Join 1 tab, or however many you ticked. Not now goes to the group without joining any.

None is ticked for you, so you are never put on someone else's costs. Each offered tab shows who is in it and how many bills it has.

How to join a tab later

  • On the group's screen, a tab you are not in reads Not in it, with a Join button. Press it.
  • Or open the group's menu and press Choose tabs to see every open tab you are not in.

You are on bills added to the tab from then on, not on any already in it. A closed tab cannot be joined.

Worked example: Jo and Sam

Maya added Jo to Flat 4B by name. She opens the group's menu, presses Invite people, and sends Jo the link. Jo opens it and reads "4 people: Maya, Tom, Priya and Jo". Jo has no account, so presses Create an account, comes back to the page, and presses Jo under Which one is you?.

The next page reads "You're in Flat 4B" and "Maya, Tom and Priya are in it too." The Bills tab is offered as "Maya, Tom, Priya - 0 bills". Jo ticks it and presses Join 1 tab, and is on every bill added to it from then.

Sam is in Lisbon crew and on the Lisbon weekend tab, but not on Porto in October. On the group's screen its row reads "Open - 0 bills - Maya, Tom, Priya" and Not in it. Sam presses Join, and the row then reads "Open - 0 bills - you're in" and Square.

If something stops you

  • The page asks you to sign in. Joining a group needs an account. To pay your part of one bill, use that bill's own link instead, which needs none.
  • "There is no open tab in this group for you to join yet". You are in the group and on no tab. A tab started in it later can be joined from the group.
  • Join tabs cannot be pressed. No tab is ticked.
  • The link does not work. Someone who runs the group may have reset it. Ask them for the new one.
