A bill's activity and settings

Rename a bill, change its date or currency, choose who can add items, move it into a tab, and see who changed what.

Every bill has its settings, opened from the button at the top of the bill, labelled Bill settings. They hold the bill's name and date, its currency, who can add items, and the ways into its people, who paid, its activity, printing and export. A bill's Activity is its history: who did what to it, the latest first, in the names people had at the time.

How to change a bill's settings

  1. Open the bill and press Bill settings at the top.
  2. Change the Title or the Date, and press Save.
  3. Press Currency to choose the bill's currency.
  4. Under Who can add items, choose Everyone or Only me.

Only the organiser can change these. Anyone else on the bill sees them, with a line saying only the organiser can change them. The currency is locked once the bill is Ready for payment.

The same screen leads to People, Who paid, Activity, Print or save as PDF and Export CSV. While the bill is being set up, Totals leads to each person's total on Review. Under This bill are Hide from my home, which takes the bill off your own lists and changes nothing for anyone else, and for the organiser, Delete bill.

How to see what happened

  1. Open Bill settings and press Activity.
  2. Read down from the latest. Each entry sits under its day, Today, Yesterday or the date, with the time it happened.

You are called "you" in entries about you, and someone who acted as a guest has "(guest)" after their name. When two seats were merged, the entry offers Undo on People while the merge can still be taken back.

How to move a bill into a tab

A bill on its own can be moved into a tab, so it counts in the tab's balances. Only the organiser can move a bill, and only while nobody has paid on it.

  1. Open Bill settings and press Move to a tab.
  2. Under Which tab?, choose one of the open tabs you are in.
  3. Under Who is who, match each person on the bill to someone in the tab, or leave them as Someone new to the tab. People with an account are matched by their account.
  4. Press the button that says Move to and the tab's name.

The bill counts in the tab once it is Ready for payment. It cannot be taken back out of the tab. Anyone who joined the bill as a guest stays on it as a name.

Worked example: Luigi's, as Tom reads it

At Luigi's Trattoria, Maya made the bill and shared its link. Tom opens Activity the next day. Under Yesterday he reads, latest first:

  • Maya made the bill ready for payment
  • Maya changed the extras
  • Priya (guest) claimed Margherita
  • You claimed Diavola
  • Maya opened the bill to others
  • Maya created the bill

Tom opens Bill settings too. The Title reads Luigi's Trattoria, with a line saying only the organiser can change it, and Who can add items says Everyone on the bill. He sees no Delete bill, because only the organiser can delete a bill.

If something stops you

  • Move to a tab says the bill has payments. A bill someone has paid on stays on its own.
  • There is no Move to a tab. The bill is already in a tab or a group, or you are not its organiser.
  • Hide from my home is refused. You cannot hide a bill while you still owe on it, or are still owed. Settle up first.
  • The settings will not open. A bill's settings need a connection.
