A quick split
Share one amount between people in a few seconds, evenly or in different amounts, ready for payment as soon as it is made.
A quick split is the fastest way to start a bill: one amount, shared between the people who were there. There are no items to enter and nothing to claim. The bill is Ready for payment as soon as it is made, so everyone can pay their share straight away.
How to make a quick split
- Press the + button in the app's bar, then choose Quick split.
- Under How much?, enter the Amount. The currency beside it can be changed.
- Under What for?, give it a name. It opens named for the time of day, such as Dinner, so you can leave it as it is.
- Under Who's in?, tap each person who shared it. You are in already. Type a name in Search or add a name to find someone, or to add someone new.
- Under Paid by, choose who paid. It starts as you.
- Choose Even or Different amounts. The line above says what each person pays.
- Press Done. The bill opens on its payments, ready for everyone to pay. A split put in a tab opens the tab instead.
If you have an open tab, the Tab row puts the split in it, and the tab's people are ticked for you.
Even or different amounts
- Even. Everyone ticked pays the same. When the amount does not divide exactly, the odd pennies go to the first people in the list, and the line says so. You are always first.
- Different amounts. A field opens for each person, filled with what they would pay under Even, so you only change the ones that differ. The line says how much is assigned and how much is left, and Done waits until the amounts add up to the total.
Worked example: dinner at Luigi's
Maya paid 77.66 for dinner at Luigi's Trattoria with Tom, Priya and Alex. She makes a quick split of 77.66, ticks the other three and leaves Paid by as herself.
Under Even, the line reads 4 ways: 19.42, 19.42, 19.41, 19.41. The 77.66 does not divide into four equal amounts, so two pennies go to the first two people in the list.
Maya knows what each person had, so she switches to Different amounts and enters Maya 18.70, Tom 28.49, Priya 19.25 and Alex 11.22. The line reads 77.66 of 77.66 assigned. Had she typed 10.00 for Alex, it would read 76.44 of 77.66 assigned. 1.22 left. Done would wait for the rest.
To share the bill by what each person ordered instead, with service on top, see A bill item by item.
If something stops you
- Done is greyed out. There is no amount yet, or nobody is ticked, or under Different amounts the amounts do not add up to the total. The reason is shown with the button.
- You are offline. A quick split needs a connection, because it is ready for payment the moment it is made.
- You are not signed in. A quick split is made from an account. Sign in, and the form opens.
