Using TabApp with no signal

TabApp keeps your bills on your phone, so it works with no signal. Every bill you are on can be read; the tabs and groups you have opened on this device can be read too. While a bill is open, and you are signed in, you can keep changing it: each change is saved on the phone and sent when you are back online. A change that can no longer be made by then is listed for you, with the reason.

How to work with no signal

1. Carry on as usual. Each screen says it is offline at the top, such as "Offline. Saved on this phone."
2. On an open bill, add, change and remove items, claim what you had, split an item, change the extras and who paid, and add a person. A change not sent yet is marked "Saved on this phone".
3. You can start a new bill too, unless it is in a tab or a group. It is sent when you are back online, and then opens so you can add its items.
4. When the connection comes back, changes are sent by themselves. The strip at the top of the screen says how many are still to go, and is gone once all are sent.

These need a connection, and say so: a quick split, scanning a receipt, making a bill Ready for payment or reopening it, paying, sharing a link, anything on a tab or a group, and signing out.

How to deal with a change that was not made

1. The strip at the top says how many changes were not made. Each is listed under its bill's name, with what it was and why.
2. When someone else changed the same thing first, both are shown: press Keep theirs or Keep mine.
3. Otherwise press Dismiss. If the reason is that the bill is now Ready for payment, ask the organiser to reopen it, then make the change again.

A change the server could not take at all says "was not sent", with Try again and Discard. Discarding asks first, because what was not sent is lost.

Worked example: no signal at Luigi's

Luigi's Trattoria is in a basement. Maya opens the bill with no signal and adds the Tiramisu at 7.00; the banner reads "Offline. 1 change waiting to be sent." Priya, signed in on her own phone and also offline, takes the Tiramisu.

Upstairs, Maya's phone sends the Tiramisu, and she makes the bill Ready for payment before Priya's phone has a signal. When it does, Priya's claim cannot be made. Her strip says "1 change not made", and the row under Luigi's Trattoria reads "Take Tiramisu for Priya: This bill is ready for payment. Reopen it to change who had what." She presses Dismiss and asks Maya to reopen the bill.

If something stops you

• "You're offline, and this bill isn't saved on this phone." It was not on this device when the connection went. It is there once you are back online.
• "Offline. You can read this bill; changing it needs a connection." The bill is Ready for payment, or you took your seat with no account. Someone with no account can read offline but change nothing.
• "Sign out and lose unsent changes?" Changes still on this phone are lost if you sign out now. Press Stay signed in and wait for the connection.
