Deleting your account

Delete your account and what you organised, and see what happens to your share on other people's bills.

Deleting your account removes your profile, payment methods, notification settings, friends and sign-in, and the bills, tabs and groups you organised, for everyone on them, with their photos. On other people's bills, tabs and groups your share stays, so their totals still add up, with your name shown as Former member. It happens at once, and cannot be undone.

How to delete your account

  1. Open Me and press Account.
  2. Under Delete my account, press Delete account....
  3. Read what will be deleted, and what you still owe or are owed. Press Continue, or Cancel.
  4. Type DELETE in the box, and press Delete account.

You are signed out and taken to the start, which says "Your account was deleted." To keep a copy first, download your data (see Export your data).

Worked example: Tom leaves

Tom is on Luigi's Trattoria, which Maya organised and made Ready for payment, and he has not paid her yet. He organised no bill.

He presses Delete account.... The sheet warns him: "You owe £28.49 to 1 person. Settle first, or continue anyway." He pays Maya first, then deletes his account. On Luigi's, his seat now reads Former member: the Diavola and his share of the Peroni are still there, so Maya's total of 77.66 does not change, and nobody sees his name or contact details.

If something stops you

  • "Deleting your account needs a connection." Try again when you are back online.
  • "Type DELETE to confirm." The box must say DELETE before the button works.
  • "Your account could not be deleted. Nothing you still have was changed for anyone else. Try again." Nothing was deleted. Press it again.
  • You only want fewer messages. Switch them off instead (see What you are sent, and stopping it).
