Export your data

Download everything your account holds as one file, or a single bill or tab as a spreadsheet.

You can download everything TabApp holds for your account at any time: your profile, payment methods, notification settings, and every bill, tab and group you are in, as one file. Other people appear in it by name only. For one bill or tab, an Export CSV gives a spreadsheet instead.

How to download your data

  1. Open Me and press Account.
  2. Under Export my data, press Download my data.
  3. The file is saved by your browser, named by the day, such as tabapp-export-2025-07-14.json. The screen says where it was saved as.

It is a JSON file, which other software can read. Nothing is emailed: the file goes only to the device you pressed it on.

How to export one bill or tab

  1. On a bill, open its Settings and press Export CSV. Choose whether to include each person's splits and the totals, check the Preview, and press Download CSV.
  2. On a tab, open its Settings and press Export CSV: "Bills, shares and payments as a spreadsheet file".

Worked example: Priya keeps a copy

Priya wants a copy of everything before her phone is replaced. On 14 July 2025 she opens Me, then Account, and presses Download my data. The screen says "Saved as tabapp-export-2025-07-14.json."

The file holds her profile and payment methods, her Inbox, her friends, Luigi's Trattoria, the Lisbon weekend tab with its bills, and Flat 4B. Maya, Tom, Sam and Alex are in it by name only: "Other people appear by name only. Their contact and payment details are not in the file."

If something stops you

  • "Exporting needs a connection." The file is made on the server. Try again when you are back online.
  • "You have exported your data several times in the last hour. Try again later." Wait a while and press it again.
  • "Your data could not be exported. Try again." Something went wrong on the way. Press it again.
