Your currency
TabApp asks which currency you use the first time it matters, suggests one, and never picks it for you.
Your home currency is the one you read amounts in. New bills and tabs start in it, and a bill or tab in another currency can show your figure in it beside its own. TabApp never chooses it for you: until you do, it is "Not chosen yet" in Preferences.
When you are asked
The first time it matters, TabApp asks Which currency do you use?, once, in what you are doing:
- when you start a tab, a quick split, a bill with items, a scan or a group, over the form;
- when you switch on Always show my currency in Preferences;
- on your Statement, in a card at the top.
You are never asked when you open an invite, join a bill or a tab, claim items or pay. A bill you join is in its own currency, and you pay in that.
How to answer
- The question suggests one currency, marked Suggested, with where the suggestion came from beneath it: "from the tab you joined", "from the bill you joined", "from where you are", "from where your browser is set", or "your current setting".
- Press Use to keep the suggestion. One press records it.
- Or press Choose another and pick from the list. Search by code, name or country.
- Or press Not now. Nothing is recorded, the form goes on in the suggestion, and you are asked again the next time it matters.
When nothing suggests a currency, the list opens straight away.
To change it later, open Preferences, under Settings, and press Home currency.
Worked example: a weekend in Lisbon
Priya has just made an account and starts a tab for a weekend in Lisbon. Before the form, TabApp asks which currency she uses and suggests Euro, "from where your browser is set". She lives in London, so she presses Choose another and picks British Pound. The tab's Settles in changes to British Pound, which she sets back to Euro for the trip. She is not asked again.
If something stops you
- "Your currency did not save. Try again." The answer did not reach TabApp. Press Use or pick it again.
- No conversion on a bill in another currency. Until you choose a currency, a bill or tab is shown in its own currency alone.
